Overclocking
For anyone looking to overclock their shiny new HD 6870, Sapphire provides a utility for those customers who have registered their product on Sapphire’s website. The ‘Trixx Tweak Utility’ provides an easy to understand, simple to use utility that is also appealing to the eye.
Using Trixx, I was able to quickly and easily overclock the 6870 by 10%, and ran all the synthetic benchmarks again to log performance increases.
Needless to say, I was very much impressed. 3DMark06 boasted by far the smallest performance gain, at a negligible 0-2% gain, which is to be expected given that this is the least stressful benchmark by far. However, performance increases start to get much more impressive with the more taxing benchmarks. 3DMark11 boasts a 9.7% performance increase with a 10% overclock, almost a 1:1 ratio, which is incredibly impressive. Vantage test results show a 5.8% performance increase, not nearly as impressive, but still very good. Furmark shows a 9.6% performance increase, again a very impressive difference for a simple 10% overclock.
