Game Developers Conference 2011
TechwareLabs didn’t attend this years Game Developers Conference in San Fransisco, but I went and took some pics for you to enjoy. I would have taken more, but I got sick on the first day.
GDC is the conference to be at if you are looking to break into the game industry. Half of the show floor was dedicated to job hunting. If you don’t think your artists skills are up to snuff, studios will gladly critique your work and there were plenty of panels just to go over your portfolio. I imagine there were equally as useful things for developers, but that’s not my game. The other half is like a show room for new technology for developers, software demos and of course large setups from the big guys at Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft.
Speaking of the big guys, Sony easily had one of the largest “booths” of anyone, Nintendo had a great setup showing off the 3DS, and Microsoft decided a corner was a great place to be. Intel also had a great setup showing off Portal 2, Shogun 2, and World of Warcraft all running at either max settings, or something close, on their Intel 3000 HD integrated graphics (Sandy Bridge). Word has it to achieve this the systems needed about 16GB RAM. Not exactly something you should have to have in order to play games.
Apple was of course not there, but I couldn’t help but notice the large number of Macs being used by not just attendees, but also demonstrators. And not just iOS stuff either. Just thought I share that (that isn’t to say that PCs did not dominate. it is a gaming convention after all).
Here are the pics (in no particular order)! Hope you enjoy.
