CrystalDiskMark 2.1:
CrystalDiskMark was used to test the different file sizes of the Western Digital Caviar Green 1TB drive. The results are as follows:
CrystalDiskMark 2.1 50MB test | CrystalDiskMark 2.1 100MB test |
CrystalDiskMark 2.1 500MB test | CrystalDiskMark 2.1 1000MB test |
We see some pretty drastic changes here depending on the file sizes used. Between using 50MB and 1000MB files, our read rate changes as much as 45.69MB/sec. This is fairly drastic. Maybe we’ll get a lot better rates if we shrink the volume of the drive? This test is used so we can get a fairly accurate representation of average transfer speeds based on file size.
SiSoft Sandra:
SiSoft Sandra is one of our favorite benchmarks to run. It contains tests for all types of hardware, and simulates different types of hardware so you may see how your drive compares to others. The Western Digital Caviar Green 1TB drive was tested against other hard drives of its type, the results are as follows:
SiSoft Sandra Rankings | SiSoft Sandra Speeds |
As we can see, the Caviar Green 1TB drive beat almost all of the others, falling only to their VelociRaptor drive. The average read speed was 75.592MB/sec. The average random access time (seek time) was 14ms. As far as I’m concerned, our data from DataMarck can be thrown out the window, since it was stating 110.0ms was the seek time. I’m proud to say that our WD 1TB drive beat out three drives that were 500GB and smaller.
