CPU Speed Tests:
SiSoft Sandra 2003 (9.44) CPU Arithmetic:
Processor | Score | Theoretical % | Actual % |
2.4GHz | 7332 / 2085 / 4656 | 0.0% | - |
2.6GHz | 8142 / 2258 / 5042 | 8.3% | 11.0% / 8.3% / 8.3% |
2.8GHz | 8562 / 2432 / 5429 | 16.7% | 16.8% / 16.6% / 16.6% |
3.0GHz | 8870 / 2608 / 5827 | 25.0% | 21.0% / 25.1% / 25.2% |
As one can see, there is a uniform increase as the frequency of the CPU is increased, but does the actual upgrade match the theoretical increase? From the above data table, the actual results are pretty close to our theoretical increases in performance (and in some instances, they exceed the theoretical values). This synthetic test reflects the raw processing power of the CPUs. Since this test only measures one aspect of overall performance (i.e. the total number crunching power of the CPU), these linear results are not mirrored in real-world tests.
SiSoft Sandra 2003 (9.44) CPU Multimedia:
Processor | Score | Theoretical % | Actual % |
2.4GHz | 11140 / 17823 | 0.0% | - |
2.6GHz | 12056 / 19170 | 8.3% | 8.2% / 7.6% |
2.8GHz | 12985 / 20590 | 16.7% | 16.6% / 15.5% |
3.0GHz | 13931 / 22132 | 25.0% | 25.1% / 24.2% |
This benchmark also tests a similar aspect of raw CPU power. Again, the results show that the actual percentage closely matches the theoretical percentage (as this test again focuses solely on number crunching speed)..
