Default Any way to share (cable fed) television over home network?

Can you distribute television signal over a home network by running it through the home's server?

Just curious if this can be done.

Yes, technically

you would need a TV tuner card, which you hook your cable box to, then you need some free software...

You need to get a Nullsoft Shoutcast server running, and use NSV live capture to capture the WDM device that your TV tuner is. Then on the other computers, download Winamp, and connect to that IP. Over a 100mbps networ, you could turn the framerate and resolution all the way up on the stream

this is all technically possible, but sometimes, certain TV tuner cards might not like NSV capture, or at least that's been my expirence when working with TV tuners being captured in seperate applications as WDM devices

notice: as far as I know, it's impossible to change channel over a network, even if you hooked the cable line directly to your card, NSV capture can't do any software channel change as far as I can tell

i would recoment the ATI devices personaly, their tuners are quite good stuff!... some others are the leadtek ones.. but either way you are gonna need a good remote to work in another room, or some kinda remote extender device..

i agree, and as for changing channel the Remote Wonder II that came with my card would definitelydo the trick. that thing is awesome. i could point it at china and as long as i was within like 50ft of my PC, it would work.

also, couldnt he use WMP or iTunes or just about any media player including winamp?
